The Neuro-Training Initiative is a program designed to teach people how to develop their cognitive and neurological processes in order to learn faster, solve problems easier, and improve personal and community relationships.
The curriculum of the Neuro-Training Initiative consists of yoga, metacognition, topics in neuroscience such as neuroplasticity, mirror neurons, handedness, and neuro-divergence, cognitive tools (including mathematic reasoning) and social-emotional skills.
We use the “praxis method” of study – theory, action, reflection and constructivist learning theory to build knowledge and apply the curriculum to real world projects using project based learning approach. We also incorporate traditional academics in the form of reading, writing and dialogue. Subjects are learner driven while being used as practice for the basic academic skills. We introduce Reading Apprenticeship
NTI curriculum in the future will also include a neuroscience-based approach to elementary topics such as art, music, theater, physical fitness and movement, languages, library science and research, culinary arts, recreation and play, and STEM topics.
Currently NTI sessions are held Mondays 4:00 to 5:30 at 169 N. Washington in Ypsilanti. We are looking for peers for attendance in the program and to act as an advisory board. If you are interested in participating, please contact Cynthis Price at skyprice@gmail.com or jclark152@gmail.com
